How we test kitchen appliances

A peek behind the curtain — the process, the tools, the mistakes.

Every product on HomeHearth spends at least two weeks in a real Indian kitchen before it earns a place on a list. We don't accept sponsored placements, and we buy the products ourselves when we can.

Our testing protocol has three stages: unboxing & setup (does the packaging feel considered? are instructions clear?), daily-use trials (we cook dosa, dal, biryani, and chai), and longevity notes (we check back after six months to see what wore, warped, or won our hearts).

For appliances, we log wattage draw and time-to-heat on a kill-a-watt meter. For cookware, we measure warping with a straight-edge before and after 20 uses. For storage, we test airtightness by weighing dry rice sealed for 30 days.

Anything that fails these tests doesn't make our lists — even if the affiliate commission would be tempting.
